Dr Alistair Cowen MB BS (Hons) MD FRACP
Dr Cowen undertook international training and research at the Aichi Cancer Centre in Nagoya Japan. He did the research for his Doctoral thesis in Bile Acid studies at Mayo Clinic in USA. Dr Cowen has over 100 articles, abstracts, book chapters, and monographs in peer reviewed medical literature.
Dr Cowen is an international expert in Infection Control in Endoscopy having written 5 editions of the Australian Guidelines, and has delivered invited State of the Art addresses at 3 consecutive World Congresses of Gastroenterology meetings. He has also authored and edited numerous Professional and Public Education monographs for The Gut Foundation of Australia.
In 2005 he received The Distinguished Service Award from The Gastroenterology Society of Australia.
He has been the Director of Gastroenterology, Visiting Gastroenterologist, and Consultant Emeritus in Gastroenterology at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.
Dr Cowen no longer has a private practice but remains very heavily involved in the clinical aspects of GIE.
Dr Cowen continues to perform procedures for GastroIntestinal Endoscopy at Chermside Day Hospital, Brisbane Endoscopy Services at Sunnybank, The Wesley and North West Private Hospitals.
