Chermside Day Hospital

Chermside Day Hospital became an accredited and fully operational Day Hospital on September 3rd 2008. It is located on Level 1 of the Chermside Medical Complex (opposite Westfield Shopping Centre) on 956 Gympie Road, Chermside. The Day Hospital is owned and operated by 9 Gastroenterologists, 5 Urologists and 2 Anaesthetists. Supporting this team of highly skilled professionals are a specialist management team who themselves possess extensive day surgery experience.

Chermside Day Hospital provides services to the Gastroenterologists and the Urologists with the opportunity to provide services to other specialties in the future. The Day Hospital has nine stage 1 recovery beds and ten stage 2 recliner chairs, consulting suites and a state of the art operating theatre and endoscopic procedure room.

GIE offers an efficient 'Open Access' endoscopy service for colonoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy at Chermside Day Hospital. Additionally the Gastroenterologists also provide private procedural and in some cases private consulting services at this Day Hospital. As with all the other centres GIE operates within, there is a very capable and efficient team of administration and nursing staff supporting our Gastroenterologists.

At Chermside Day Hosptial, a group of Urologists privately consult and perform procedures from this Day Hospital. The Urologists provide diagnostic and therapeutic urological day case procedures including: cystoscopies, prostate biopsies, endoscopic bladder tumour management (including intravesical BCG treatment), ureteric and renal calculous management, male urogenital day procedures (including: vasectomy, hydrocele excision, circumcision and penile straightening). Deep invasive or laparoscopic surgery will not be performed as such procedures require an overnight stay.

The values and services provided at Chermside Day Hospital are built around the experiences GIE have gained from operating Brisbane Endoscopy Services at Sunnybank over the past 21 years providing gastrointestinal endoscopy services. The Gastroenterologists believe that selecting and training their own nursing and clerical staff, selecting their preferred equipment and developing their own clinical pathways has advantages for their patients, referring doctors and themselves. These services underpin a safe, effective and caring system.

There is ample free parking available at the back of the Chermside Medical Complex and in the underground basement. Disability parking is available immediately behind the complex. Lift access is available from all the car park levels. The Chermside Day Hospital is on a major bus route and near the bus terminus at Chermside Shopping Centre on Gympie Road.

Brisbane Endoscopy Services - McCullough Centre, Sunnybank

The GIE partners have owned and operated Brisbane Endoscopy Services (BES) at Sunybank since 1987. GIE developed its core policies and procedures at BES. Our Doctors are very proud of Brisbane Endoscopy Services as the values, services and experiences gained here have assisted in establishing the gastrointestinal endoscopy services provided at the other centres they now work within - The Wesley and North West Private Hospitals and most recently at Chermside Day Hospital.

The Gastroenterologists believe that selecting and training their own nursing and clerical staff, selecting their preferred equipment and developing their own clinical pathways has advantages for their patients, referring doctors and themselves.

The services developed at Brisbane Endoscopy Services underpin a safe, effective and professional gastrointestinal endoscopy service for all their patients and referring doctors throughout Brisbane. BES is accredited by ACHS (Australian Council of Healthcare Standards).

 

North West Private Hospital

GIE offers 'Open Access' endoscopy services for colonoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy from the Endoscopy Unit at North West Private Hospital. Private procedural work is also performed at this Unit.

GIE have had a long association with the staff and Management at North West and value the services provided to them as a Gastroenterology group along with the care and attention afforded to their patients.

Major renovations are currently underway in the Day Surgery area of the Hospital which will, when completed, provide the team of Gastroenterologists and staff working within the endoscopy unit with state of the art services.

Wesley Private Hospital

The first endoscopy unit that GIE worked within was at The Wesley Hospital in 1985. It was in this time period that GIE first incorporated their gastrointestinal endoscopy services. Four of our current eight Gastroenterologists were founding members of the GIE group...Drs Cowen, Roberts, Robinson and Sandford. In 1987, two years after GIE formed a partnership and commenced working from The Wesley Hospital, these Gastroenterologists established Brisbane Endoscopy Services at Sunnybank.

From the Endoscopy Unit in the Day Centre at The Wesley Hospital, GIE offers 'Open Access' endoscopy services for colonoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy . Private procedural work is also performed from this endoscopy unit. GIE values the contribution and services provided by the Wesley Hospital along with the care and attention afforded to their patients.

Major building redevelopment throughout the whole Wesley campus is currently underway with a new Day Centre included in their project work.
